 FEL Triple Clarinet Case?
Author: Clarimeister

I just ordered this case from John Myatt Woodwind and Brass overseas in Britain to ship here in the US. I've been looking for a triple clarinet case for a while and the Gigliotti case is no where to be found since it's out of stock at 1 Stop Clarinet shop, and I've heard bad things about the Leblanc case that its extremely heavy and not fun to carry around. I really wanted to get the Gigliotti case however it is just no where to be found. I also don't want to spend 1000 bucks on a Wiseman case just to hold my Bb/A/Eb clarinets. So, my question is, does anyone or has anyone owned the FEL triple clarinet case? I ordered it and it should be here in a few weeks. Any suggestions or thoughts would be helpful thank you.

I haven't used it, but I would really like to hear what you think of it when you get a chance to use it.

theres one person on the forum that uses a fel case. use the search function. his post with pictures + review will pop up.

I don't have a FEL triple case but have their single case. Especially considering it has a zipper, I really like it. Actually the only thing that is sometimes annoying is that when walking with it, the connection of the strap and case (like a hook) makes a bit of a squeak. Possible to solve and might not happen with your case anyway.

I get that with my double oboe/cor anglais case as well.

I've got a triple case from Musical Bags:
Musical Bags

It’s designed to hold a Bb + A + Eb clarinet at the same time. But if you put all of them in the case, then the bell of the Eb clarinet needs to be put in the bell of the A or Bb clarinet. I’ve put my spare Bb clarinet in the place of the A clarinet and the case adapted nicely to the clarinet.

The case has a nice comfortable molded handle and adjustable shoulder straps with pads. There is also a possibility to carry it as a backpack. It’s very strong and there is a combination lock on the left side.

I’ve added some pictures of the case for those who searching for a nice combo A/Eb/Bb case…

I use an FEL triple - it's a good case but doesn't need to be as large as it is, there's a great deal of wasted space inside. It's outlasted two BAM trekking double cases, so is currently being used as my everyday case as I refuse to lay out money on a third BAM in 8 years. The only part of any of the instruments that isn't protected well is the Eb barrel - storing it vertically is asking for trouble and it always falls out, so I keep mine in the small rectangular section right in the middle of the case.

Mine's actually a quad case currently as my flute case fits in the outside pocket with room to spare. It's great for over size music as well - I've got the Klose method and the Messiaen QftEoT in it at present as a start, plus a wiseman reed case, several boxes of new Vandorens, a large toolkit and two stands.

It's the same size as your average suit carrier, so I actually clip it to mine and carry the whole lot over one shoulder, very handy.

Mine has as FEL squeak as well!

One time that squeak drove me crazy because I couldn't figure out where it was from. It was hard because I couldn't make it squeak, then when I was walking it started again, only to disapear when I change its angle slightly. Finally I thought I found it, so I put some oil in that connection and it fixed it, but not for very long. Maybe putting some fabric there will fix it more permenantly.

My old Selmer Signet case (my first clarinet ever) always has the squeak, and I always loved playing rhythms with it!

I have the Leblanc triple case. It is a little heavy to carry but I have a case cover that has straps to be used as backpack and that makes carrying that case so much easier. The good thing about the Leblanc is that it has a lot of space to put many accessories.

From time to time, I have considered getting a triple--or even quadruple--case, but have always come to the conclusion why carry the added weight on my shoulder--orchestra, wind ensembles, travel (I take my Buffet A & Bb everywhere I go)--when I seldom have need for the Eb or the C. When the repretoir does call for the added clarinets, I can then easily carry the effer and/or the C (in their factory issued individual cases) in a Lands End canvas bag--or Pick & Save reusalbe grocery bag, etc--along with my multi peg Blayman clarinet stand, bottled water or coffee and lunch. My shoulder is much happier with just my lightweight Yamaha soft side double clarinet case and the necessary other stuff I seem to find need to always tote with it.

However, those Wiseman quad cases--although quite expensive--have always appealed to me. Not sure I would like to carry the effer bell inside the A or Bb bell as was suggested for the FEL case.......up to you, I guess.

There used to be a picture on the Howarth website but I see it's now gone.

Ahhh well I just received an email from John Myatt that they aren't in stock, which I knew about, but that it would take several months for it to be shipped. That's way too long to wait for my case since I'm going to be traveling very soon. Anyone know any sites or anywhere where there's a good triple case that is in stock? Like the Orly, Airway, Leblanc, or Gigliotti? Again I don't want to drop 1000 bucks for a wiseman case as good as they sound. I've heard about the Orly case but can't find it anywhere, Gigliotti is sold out, and I'm curious about the Airway Double Bb & A case on Muncy winds but I'm not sure if that means two Bb's and an A or can you put an Eb in there? Any pictures will help a lot. Any help again appreciated!

-David

I'm still waiting pics for the FEL case if anyone other than Danny Boy has some. Otherwise I can wait, no rush I'm just curious as I did order one from Howarth in London. Thanks!
