Thanks Glenn...I hadn't even heard of him until one of the BB members,"Dutch", introduced me to his playing a few years ago. What a guy.

Wow - Audrey Cupples (Marine Band Principal Alto) just put a bunch of Al's pictures on her site in the past week before his passing.

Al was still booked in advance too!

Al Gallodoro's Obit:

In his dying days, Al became a delicate piece of lace, translucent, beautiful,
So fine that he could only bear the vibration of God's gentlest music.
In the painful emotions of his life's end, there is also radiance.
And a confirmation that we too aren't going to live forever.
An irresistible invitation to living life to the fullest presents itself.
Indeed a poignant reminder
To pass on this invitation at our own death.
"Infinite Gallodoro" is keeping the circle unbroken.
Al passed away, peacefully this Saturday morning, October 4, 2008.
He played his last gig just two weeks ago, on September 20, 2008.

After hearing Al play Lisa I was hooked. He played with real panache and it looks like he lived life with panache. A wonderful player .... wonderful person ... a pretty good combination.

Al was amazing and truly a giant. And charming.

Here's a couple of You Tube links that can give those who have not seen or heard him play/chat an idea just how great a man we have lost.

Al's old 78 RPM recording of the Chopin Fantasy-Impromtu was an inspiration to all us teen agers in the 40's. His continued professionalism in his nineties was an inspiration to all us octogenarians in the 2000's. It was great the college gave him an honorary degree!

So sad to read of his passing. I wrote to him once on his website to ask if he remembered my father, Walter Sarlette, who played in the big bands to put himself through college. He was so kind to answer! He said even though he could not remember my father right offhand, he kept books of all the musicians he had played with and was going to check through them. I have his two CDs and also a picture of another listmate Cat Catalano, and himself playing at the Clarinet Fest in New Orleans. What treasures they are.

Goodbye dear friend.
