Just heard a great quotation but don't know who said it:

"After you've heard a work by Mozart, the silence that follows, this is still by Mozart."

According to Google, it credited to Sacha Guitry (21 February 1885 – 24 July 1957) a French film actor, director, screenwriter and playwright.

Not too long ago, we played a piece called Elegy for a Young American as part of a 9/11 memorial concert at my school. Near the end of it is a rather loud section leading up to a grand pause, followed by another loud section. While rehearsing it in class, someone almost always held over into the grand pause, as you might expect. However, on the night of the concert, the cutoff was perfect, and that little bit of silence was, to me, the very best part of the entire concert.
