Last night I heard his "Serenade for Three for Clarinet, Violin and Piano" at a UW-Madison faculty recital, Linda Bartley, clarinet and friends. For those of you who have not played of heard this work, I would highly recommend it for your next rehearsal or performance. It is in three movements, the first and especially third being quite rhythmic and jazzy in nature, and the second being an exquistie excercise in lovely tonal and harmonic texture. Very entertaining music and, judging from the players themselves, a lot of fun to play. Peter wrote a good one, here...........

Also, of interest on the same program, was the "Quiet Exchange for Clarinet and Two Cymbals", by former Madisonian, Stephen Chatman. The clarinet must play no louder than pp as the cymbals are very carefully played with finger tips, brushes and soft soda-straw like sticks--definately no heroic crash effects. Also, interesting music--and different.

Glad to see that Peter's web site has snips of "Serenade for Three" to sample. It's certainly lively! Thanks for letting us in on the recital. http://www.schickele.com/shoppe/psrec/orion.htm

Once again we can thank the Verdehr Trio. This piece is another one of their numerous commissions, and I think among the best pieces for the clarinet-violin-piano repertoire. It is recorded on one of the Verdehr Trio's " The Making of a Medium" series, #5.
