While visiting a goodfriend yesterday her Granddaughter(10 Yrs) Comes walking through the house. clarinet under her arm stand in the other hand. I watch her through the window. She Set's up the stand very carefully puts togeather her clarinet.(plastic bundy).Picks her music and turns to talk to her audience(two squirrels and a pine tree). She stands and announces"today I'd like to play you a selection from the famous band book one" She proceeds to play "Go tell Aunt Roadie" Twinkle Twinkle" And "Row Row Row your boat". Now I know it doesn't sound like much, but. She doesn't start actual band classes till next month.Someone gave her the clarinet two weeks ago with a some old First division band method books. Her tone was astounding! She held that clarinet so lovingly it drew me back to my first days. She is gunna be somethiing. And the moment touched me.I just had to tell someone who would understand.Grandma and I clapped and she got all red in the face ,she didn't know we were watching. But, she did have enough ham in her to bow!

Does anyone else remember the first days.........

Thanks for letting me yammer on.........

Ah, bless!

As you say, sounds as though she has something worth encouraging to say the least.

My daughter is currently a seniot in high school, and she still likes to sit out in the back yard and practice when the weather permits. She has reached the point where the neighbors are asking her to do it more often, as they really enjoy listening to her. She is looking at music schools for next year and wants to major in performance, with a second field to use as a backup for economic reasons.

It's always great to see a child really embrace an instrument at the earliest stages.

Thanks for sharing that with us! What a great story!

I started teaching my 4-year-old son to play a few weeks ago, so I'm starting to relive those early days, myself. He saw the YouTube video of Michele Gringas' student, Louis (who I think is her son), and after that decided that's what he wanted to do, and there was no stopping him. So I bought him a box of Ricos, sat him down with an eefer and he was hooked! He's so excited and motivated, it's infectious--he comes and gets me every day to come practice with him. It's a lot of fun!

(Although we do end up with a lot of really mangled reeds--I wonder if Julian Bliss ever had that problem... :) )

Didn't we all mangle reeds in the begining? My momma bought me cheap ricos by the box,I thought I was hot stuff in band class.haha....I ususally ended up sharing with my band mates. I am gunna give Haley some lessons, she has only called and left messages about three times since I was over there. Whish I wasn't so busy,I'd go right now. Thanks for letting me share.....
