Hello, friends
My local retail outlet here in St. Louis tells me that click barrels are no longer available. I was wondering if there was any kind of similar product on the market that could be used with middle school students to help them play up to pitch.

It is not that easy to convince parents of young clarinet players to buy a couple of different barrels for tuning purposes.
I know of a couple of students who bought Click barrels online recently at a place called 1stopclarinet. It seems to be a reliable place. I have a couple of student who use tuning rings. Much cheaper but they do tend to lose them.

You could use the old fashioned method of getting a barrel that is short enough, then pull out, adding tuning rings if you like.

It's called developed embouchure and focussed airstream. If they're playing flat, working on those 2 things will help it. Most of my students run sharp to their bands.
I have a click barrel myself because I play with an accordionist whose instruments are 442 and 444 (2 different accordions for different kinds of music).

Get em a 64 or 65 mm barrel, pull out or adjust as needed and call it a day.....
The Click Barrel I classified as junk as to me that's just how good it was.
Just make sure if you buy it on an auction site that it is indeed for Bb Clarinet and not for A as many auctions for 65's are intended for the A.
Ask first.

I have to admit I agree. I know some find them useful, but those I tried were lousy.

The Click I have is not too bad. Only reason I use it is that it's the shortest readily available barrel on the market that fits my horn. There was another that was also adjustible (Bradley something? can't remember the name) and was 59 mm. I forget how short my Click is... maybe 63 or 62?

Katrina- at that short, how does it affect the scale, especially the relationship of the throat tones vs the rest of the instrument?

I haven't really taken out a tuner and played through it without "lipping" things. "Real life" intonation is never the same with an accordion anyway!

Your accordrionist is obviously not a "gentleman."
The definition of a "gentleman" is someone who can play accordion......but he chooses not to.
Just spoofing you. I hope everyone manages to find the "right" setup for themselves.
