The Clarinet BBoard

Things are bound to be a bit confusing at first, but this is the newest version of the BBoard. I skipped a number of versions in between (they weren't significantly better than the old version). The only "bug" I've found so far is clicking on "older messages" brings you too far back in one click - you have to click "newer messages" 3 or 4 times to bring it back to the top.
It does have the nice feature of emailing you replies to your post - just click the button at the bottom of the posting form and it'll send mail to you when you get a reply (assuming you put a valid email address in there). It also allows replies to replies (threads). Try not to misuse that feature, too. Things can easily get nested way to deep.
You'll also see that there's that little "new" image that shows up when a new message is posted. Since this is your "first" time on the new version of the BBoard, all the messages will be "new". After you've caught up, you might want to click the "mark all messages as read" link.
The format of the page (headers & footers) will also be changing soon.
Cheers,
Mark C., Webmaster

Hi Mark - ?How many times have you heard that the boards are wider that {my} screen?? and require moving to read it all. Also I used the postings count to tell me "whats new". All in all, I see lots of improvement, just takes getting used to. Don

Don,
The BBoard is set up to use at least 800x600 resolution when maximized, which is pretty much the lowest common denominator for Web browsing nowadays. Try setting your screen for that.
WebTV folks are out of luck (but then again, there's an awful lot of other things that WebTV can't do).

I visited the board when I got up this morning (it was the old format) and when I got back from rehearsal, I came again and was confused at first about the new format. It looks great and everything, but the thing I don't like about it is that I have to maximize the window to view it properly. (I never maximize my windows because I have AOL and am usually in an Instant Message.) But I really like the way you can read all the replies at once and the email replies option below.

I like the new look. I like being able to scroll straight through the whole thread this way, instead of calling up each message separately. I didn't really mind doing that, but this is a more convenient way to refresh my memory about what's already been said, when a few days elapse between old messages and new ones.

Just noticed one other little glitch. Within the same visit, "mark all read" worked to remove all the "new" flags, but after I posted my message above and went back to the top, all the "new" flags reappeared, including the ones next to this thread.

There's a few other features of the BBoard that are nice, one of which is keeping accidental double postings out of the BBoard.

Lelia, that may only take permanent effect later. I'm not really sure. It hasn't been reported as a bug in the bug list - hopefully it'll straighten itself out soon.

Thank the guy who developed this & gave it away - I just test & install!
The Phorum site seems to be down right now, though :^(

My lack of computer expertise will be evident to all, I still have to go side to side to read it all [or just guess at what is on the right} . Where are my kids and particularly my grand kids when I need you??? I do have f[r]iends here who can help poor me! Otherwise its great. Don

Don,
if you set your resolution to 800x600 and maximize the window it'll fit without scrolling side to side.

Might also need to set a different text size. If you are using Internet Explorer, from the menu bar, pick View, pick Text Size, and pick Medium. For me this works quite nicely if my screen resolution is 800 x 600.

Mark,
As someone who uses a prehistoric computer, I much appreciate the speed of the new bulletin board. And the look. Thanks very much.

I, being a Mac user am unable to change my monitor resolution from 640x480 with the monitor I have. I also have to click back and forth like Don. I am enjoying this v. immensely though.

Wow! Where am I? I thought this was the clarinet BBoard, perhaps I was mistaken. It looks SO MUCH BETTER, + EASIER. Well done.
It'll be hard to think about the old days again, won't it?

This format has the advantage that the original message and the replies are all on the same page. But... Is there a natural break point at 20, 30 or 50 messages, or do they ALL go onto a single page> The downside of the single page format is that they can become quite long and be very slow to load at dial-up speeds. So if the software has the page-break feature, you might want to install it.
(Granted that most threads don't garner 200 posts...)

All on a single page if you use the "Flat" option. That's the way it is - there's no break for pages. Use the Threaded view to get around it.
