I just want to know what all of your opiions are on plastic reeds compared to traditional cane reeds. I'd appreciate it!

This topic came up here a lot of times. Why don't you just try one? They are not too expensive. I own one (plasticell - spelling?), but can play it only up to say g in the clarion register. And even below it does not sound satisfying. However, it is a bid too broad for my german mouthpiece, and a bit too soft for my taste. So it may simply not fit me.

If you are refering to the Legere reeds I like mine very much. As a matter of fact i have two more on order. There is no adjustment necessary and they are ready to play. If you are referring to plasticover reeds by rico they are ok and play well with my glass mouthpiece.
I would suggest that you try a Legere there has been a lot of postive feedback here on the board. That is why i purchased one.

Iv'e tried the Legere reed (about twelve of them at last years Mid-West in Chicago), bought three for clarinet. two for bass clar, alto sax and tenor sax. I use the sax and bass clar legere's, but do not use the sop clar's because they do not (for me) produce as good a sound in the upper register as the average cane reed does. FYI--for cane, I prefer VD regulars, #4. Good luck.

As said before Legere reeds are not that expensive. I used them when I didn't have any free time to fuss with my Vandorens. I prefer cane, the Legeres had a wolf tone on my clarion B, just over the break. My son will not use them at all.

EXCUSE ME??!!!! What's this about plastic reeds! When did they come out?
I feel really upset and betrayed by my fellow clarinetists over here in England, because I haven't even HEARD of these being available at all!

I have tried a few different brands of synthetic reeds, but I haven't been completely satisfied with any of them. No synthetic reed responds quite like cane. I do like them for instrument repair, as I can leave them around for quite a long time and they wont go bad. They have their advantages and disadvantages. It depends what your prefences are, and what your playing. -- Nate Zeien
