Do any of you know whether David Pino has an email address? If so, please let me know, because I would like to discuss with him several things in his book.

Umm, according to the Southwest Texas State website, he doesn't currently have an email...
Hoewever, I am one of his students here at SWT. I'm a freshman, but I've met him on several occassions prior to my attending here, so we know each other fairly well. Perhaps, if you like, I could ask about any questions you may have, as I may learn from them as well... I just don't know if he'll be here this week because he may have scheduled a week in New York state to teach and perform at another university. Still, I hope I can help

Everything I have heard about Ton Kooiman's thumbrest says it can assist the player in situations where there is a physical problem with the wrist or joints in the hand. Also, in situations where there is discomfort. I have wondered the same as you, have some people used it as a corrective measure for actual hand/finger position?
In that regard, much has been said about Charles Bay's corrective Thumbrest. If I understand the mechanical principle correctly, the Thumb is PREVENTED from going too far to the left. Was Mr. Bay's corrective thumbrest was envisioned for an advancing player? I have heard it mentioned as a corrective device for beginning players.
Mr. Bay is a wonderful resource. He talks to everybody freely, why not give him a call at his shop in CA & discuss with him?
Good luck. mw
