V. Kohlert's Sons Clarinet

I have a V. Kohlert's Sons Clarinet - serial # 246924. It is stamped with Graslitz Czecho-Slovakia. The body and bell are both stamped with a 'B Flat', however it is a C instrument. It also has closed holes. I have not found any info on this particular description - can anyone offer some insight?

I have one similar also. Ser # 295,217, same markings [Bb] with a 5-pointed star on the bell. Its a fair "heavy, ?dark" player. There is info re: Koh's insts and C Z's "checkered" history in our archives, try a Search. Dave Spiegelthal is one of our K owners-repairers and has put good info available in BBoard searches. I date mine to about 1930. Don

Could it be a High Pitch (A-455 or so) Bb clarinet? That would put it somewhere between B-natural and C in modern "low" pitch (A-440/442). What is the overall length of the clarinet?

I have two old Kohlert clarinets, one is a standard Boehm (open-hole, of course), the other a full-Boehm, both have serial numbers in the 261,000 range. They are both marked with "V. Kohlert's Sons, Graslitz, Czecho-Slovakia, Bb LP". I believe they date to the 1920s, but have no proof of that. Both of mine have been completely restored and play beautifully.

Since the mystery clarinet in question is not marked "LP", I'd guess it's a High Pitch instrument. Can't explain the closed holes, though.
