How do you tell which plating is on the keys of your horn.
I just bought a vintage R-12 and the horn looks brand new. There is absolutely no wear on the keys. It is very shiny so I suspect it is nickel plated... how do I tell the difference?

Nickel plating is harder and more shiney than silver. Either plating wears with use, but the softer stuff will wear more quickly. The silver-plated keys are more expensive, and may indicate a better instrument, or not.

I seeked a way to identify straightforwardly.
Like an artificial diamond vs real diamond:
1)If you pour breath,real diamond becomes less
transparent,but artificial ones does not.
2)You can write letters by oily magic pen on real ones,
but not on artificial ones.
But there seems 2 ways to identify Silver and Nickel platings:
1)Looks:As writen by Mr.Van Cott.
2)Silver will become stained as time elapses by Zinc,Sulfur, and Oxygen.
