Sorry Fred, the schools over here don't have as much money as your schools do in the US!
To Don and Lindy, What in the name of .... is EBAY?????
To S.Koumas - I hear you and I've alrady thought about buying a clarinet for an unusually cheap price somewhere - the question is where?! And, how do I tell if the one I have bought is of good quality?
- Am posting this as a new topic as well so people don't miss me in the rush of topics.
Thanks alot,
Dave.

Ebay is an online auction site where you can bid on practically anything. I have checked bass clarinets on there a few days ago and there are a few. You just need to be careful that if you go for something really inexpensive on there, you may need to spend some bucks fixing an instrument up.
Good luck!

Should you plug in and veiw the clarinets on eBay, I strongly suggest a mental eventory of all the basic parts. In the case of a bass, the main body(s), the bell, the neck especially as I've seen several of these that were missing. Many of thr sellers are basicaly "horse" (junk) traders and have no knowledge of instruments. If its shiney or looks expencive they think they have found gold. Also look and count all the keys, rings and such. Check for any obvious dammage (tenons, cracks, previous repairs). You can find some good deals on eBay, just use caution and your wits.
