conductor: Harnoncourt
piano: Bolet
singer: Bostridge
clarinet: Fröst

for american clarinetists...
1 Robert Marcellus
2 Harold Wright
3 John Manasse
4 David Shifrin
international clarinetists...
1 Fröst
2 Sabine Meyer
Various others that i don't remember the names of, but still enjoy.
My preference changes often depending on what 'sound' I think I want to achieve. I don't try to copy sound, but try to mold my own personal sound with some of the characteristics I hear and enjoy.

Artie Shaw
His recordings never cease to amaze - no studio tricks, no inserts or touch ups of wrong notes, a large vocabulary of harmonic and chordal ideas, and an incredibly impressive facility in the extreme high register.
Try playing through some of the clarinet transcriptions of his solos and you'll soon appreciate how he consistantly made the very difficult passages sound so easy...GBK

If I had only to pick one clarinet player, I think I would go for Alessandro Carbonare, although the best live clarinet performance I experienced was Thomas Martin.

There are so many, and many (clarinetists) who I'm always suprised don't come up here on the forum more often (so far haven't in this thread), but instead I'll just mention one performer (not a clarinetist) who is unlikely to be mentioned on this thread at all, Slava Polunin. Check him on YouTube.

It's time to repeat my absolute favorite Goodman/Zoot Sims anecdote:
When Benny Goodman took his band to Russia in 1962, the tour was filled with the usual amount of tension (mostly from Benny) and endless sanctions from the Russian government officials.
When Zoot Sims returned back to the United States after the tour was over, he was asked what it was like to play with Benny in Russia.
His answer: "EVERY gig with Benny is like playing in Russia." ...GBK
