Doing a search of cases, I came across a Selmer Low C lightweight bass clarinet case. No pics of the interior, so I was wondering if anyone has seen it and can describe its features. It looked kind of neat--not "bulky" like the Bam case.

Just a thought...for a couple hundred more you could get a Wiseman case that would be guaranteed for life and hold two more clarinets.

The one issue with the Wiseman, besides cost is that they are a bit heavier. Some things to weigh (no pun intended)

You know...I should have thought of that. I was just in Ireland for the last two weeks and the Euro is killing us right now. (it definitely killed me! The only reason I didn't skimp on the Guinness was because of the Irish 20 oz pint!).
I've given two bad bits of advice today...so I think I'll hang the keyboard up for the afternoon!

I have a Selmer LW bass case and that picture is not said case. That looks more the double to me. The bass case is very similar in shape to the BAM case, but inferior in my opinion, so I use that.
This is what I have (or pretty close, I believe the Privilege has slightly different cut-outs) - I can't see how a bass would fit in the case pictured unless it's absolutely HUGE. All of the Selmer links on that site seem to point to the same picture.

Danny Boy must be right or else this is the biggest bass clarinet case. I don't think the Wiseman is significantly heavier than the stock cases (of Buffet, Selmer) but maybe a little heavier. Another issue with the Wiseman is room for sheet music. It is irelevant for me but for someone who needs a lot of sheet music, especially books, then it won't fit into the additional clap on bag. That guarantee for life is good but you have to ship it back to them (or does the store you buy it from pay for that? I'm guessing not).

That was my observations as well--thanks you all for your feedback. I've got the stock Buffet Prestige case which is "ok", but I think I will be saving my pennies-better yet, make that BIG bucks--for a more compact Wiseman that will also carry my A & Bb when needed.

Just received this from Sharon at F. Weiner regarding their pictured Selmer lightweight bass clarinet case: "The dimensions for the 5040 bass clarinet case is 32 ½ x 12 ½ x 7 ½. The weight is about 16 lbs". Even though I sent her a link to their own ad, she did not say that the wrong case was pictured in it........(?) Do these demesions match your bass case, Dan C?

William, that sounds bigger than the Buffet stock case. I assume the weight is with the instrument. 16 lbs is about 7.3kg and I just checked my Wiseman but with the soprano clarinet (I think my soprano is a little heavier than most) and all accessories for both instruments in it too (everything but no sheet music) and the total is about 9.2kg.

You can notice there are two models, A and B. I have the shorter A model and prefer it because it's smaller. Only very rarely I need two soprano clarinets and bass clarinet, but in the one or two times I needed that I brought the other soprano in a seperate case. I don't think two sopranos would fit in the A model unless you put all/most of the accessories (maybe including mouthpieces) in a seperate bag. If you buy the longer B model then you might be able to fit two sopranos and all accesssories. So if you usually need two sopranos then I'd consider the B model (but it's really long). If you need to bring stuff that won't fit in the Wiseman anyway (like too big sheet music) then you might prefer the smaller A model and put the accessories in the extra bag anyway. For me the whole point of the Wiseman was that I don't anything else to carry, which is almost always the case

I know some people don't like it but I liked the BAM case that I had my old Selmer in. It was MUCH better than the terrible case that came with the horn (and the horn fit in the case BETTER!) and was certainly more lightweight. As long as you're just carrying the instrument and not using it as cargo, then I would suggest that as an alternative.
