 Tchaikovsky's 6th in common usage
Author: davidsampson

As I write this I am listening to Tchaikovsky's 6th Symphony for the first time... or so I thought. The first movement sounds extraordinarily familiar, I can sing parts of it and anticipate what is going to come next. Where might I have heard it before?

I've got a challenge for you - sing the 1st violin part at the beginning of the 4th movement!

The first mvt theme was recorded with lyrics.
I recall a schmaltzy Robt. Goulet recording that I heard on a broadcast circa 1970s.
Lyrics went something like...."This is the story of a starry night"

Chris P, that would be a challenge...since the famous melody is split between the 1st and 2nd violins...

Hmm... Smurfs sounds fairly believable, even though I can't find it mentioned on that site. That show had me forever associating Scheherazade and Schubert's Unfinished with spooky castles... I didn't realize where that connection came from until I saw an episode a couple years back.

If not Smurfs, then I could swear I've heard it in some other cartoon. Can't remember which, but I also have some pre-hearing-it-as-Tchaik-6 memory of it.
