Does anyone know when Mr. Walker will record or release his promised cd with the clarinet accompaniment added to the Rose clarinet etudes piano cd?
It's too bad no one has recorded these etudes at present...If anyone video recorded him or herself playing all of the Rose etudes, we could all see the video if they first convert the video to a mp3 and then post the video on this site....I would even pay for the video if it is not free to download.
Anybody want to record themselves playing the etudes very well?

Hi, Take Five,
Chris Hill and I are planning to record the 32 Etudes with my piano accompaniments this spring, and make the CD available through Campanile Records at South Dakota State University. We will have more information as that develops. Thanks for inquiring.

That is great news Mr. Walker, and tell Mr Hill that I can't wait to hear you both play those famous Rose etudes together.
And I hope the two of you are also planning to record the second set of the Rose etudes, when you have the time.
And many thanks "GBK" for your help in answering my question.

Dear Prof Walker.
Please add the Gambaro Caprice #20 to your backlog of work. Thanks.

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to let you all know that the CD is available now. I just bought a copy from John Walker and received it yesterday. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet but I'll do that today.

Well I have listened to the recordings and I must say they are very
nicely done! There has been a need for something like this for a long
time and I applaud Chris and John for putting this CD together.
I had been waiting it to be released, but had not heard anything
about it recently so I did a little Googling and found that they were
being offered by John Walker right here in the woodwind.org classifieds!
(BTW I have no affiliation with either Christopher Hill or John Walker)

I just got my copy this morning and have been playing the bass along with with it. It's nice not to have to work on Rose all alone.

You can also get the Rose Etudes from;
www.cdbaby.com
Their site includes audio samples from all 32 plus a lot of other unusual cds.
Some of M. Zukovsky's cds, which are hard to get, are also available there.

Great pieces for teaching...they make for rather dull listening though...unless of course one is a clarinetist...!!!! Therein lies the pudding!

Received the Hill-Walker CD of the Rose Etudes today and really enjoying it.
Chris's take on them seems authoritative. I really like his clarinet style; elegant and assured!
I think every clarinet lover should have this CD...so there.
I wish Chris would do the 40 now!

Received my CD just before climbing on the plane and listened to it for several hours in mid-air. Excellent job and my thanks to both for the collaboration to make this excellent CD. IMHO - I consider it a helpful interpretation but as with any execution of a piece of music it is not, and should not be, the definitive. These etudes, in addition to their technical merit, should also be the starting point for a studentĀ“s own interpretation and expression of his or her style. Again many thanks.

What am I missing in these messages? I bought a CD of the accompaniment of the Rose 32 Etudes composed and performed by John Walker a few years ago. It's Carl Fischer WF5CD.
I think my CD is great! How does this new CD differ from mine?

I just paid for a downloadable version of the Chris Hill and John Walker recordings of the 32 Rose Etudes, and I must say that I am very satisfied with them. This is a great tool to use when learning, or just plain going through the Rose etudes. As mentioned before these recordings should not be heard as the definitive version. Develop your own style first before you start modeling yourself after a recording. I've been listening to them for two hours, or so and have already found them to of some help on the etudes i've already learned.
Also, I just found that there is an accompaniment CD. Should be fun to play around with.
happy listening and playing

If you havn't already noticed it, at the end of Etude 32 if you keep the CD running Sean has added some interesting electronic mixes of the Etudes. The whole disk uses some electronic aids...not quite like the old echo chamber at Capital Records but still....
