After seeing Sabine Meyer perform both the Mozart and Brahms quintets on the same bill ,and the previous week see the members of the Cleveland orchestra perform the Beethoven octet I was struck with the idea that it would be wonderful if the internetional clarinetfest could coincide with the Edinburgh International Festival! Is this ever likely to happen?Cara

Not especially. England would have to host, and of course you wouldn't want them to be the same week but on consecutive weeks (I don't know when the Edinborough Festival is, but Clarinet Fest has traditionally been in the first half of July). Then there's the problem of length - not many of us can take the amount of time off consecutively to attend both.

Instead of combining, why not split them up so more people can get to them. How about a ClarFest Mid-West, West, East, South, Asia, Etc.??? Just a thought.....

The ClarinetFests are held in different locations every year so that people from different areas can get to them. More than one major clarinet festival a year right now would dilute the available talent pool and attendance. Right now approx. 1000 people attend the fest. If you were to divide that up you'd find that it couldn't support itself anymore.

What a shame!By the way Mark Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland, and it would be Scotland hosting should it ever happen.I know that sounds a bit tetchy but we Scots are fiercly proud of our separate identity, especially now that after 300 years we have our own parliament again.

Whoops! I read Edinborough, not Edinburgh - but that's still Scotland.
Sorry for the faux pas.
