 Mouthpiece sizes?
Author: PopeS25

Okay, I've been playing clarinet for a lowly year and a half by now, so I still don't know a lot about the instrument. Recently my mouthpiece broke the the point of no repair so I went off and bought a Van Doren B45 mouthpiece for my Selmer CL601 Aristocrat. The trouble is, it's too large to fit onto my current barrel without using more force than normal. The new ligature I bought barely fits around the thing either. Is there something wrong here? Maybe there's just a sizing or something I did not pay attention to.

I'm never indecisive! I think.

Put a ton of cork grease on it, new corks have not compressed at all. I recommend one of the Doctor's Products (the Doctor himself posts on this board). http://doctorsprod.com

It's not just the cork. The plastic itself is almost too large. Just barely fits in if I try hard enough. The cork doesn't fit at all. Grease isn't helping much.

I'm never indecisive! I think.

B45 bomber huh?

You can get the barrel sized, or get another mouthpiece.

I would choose the later.

Maybe you could sell it?

If you can return the B45, a number of us would say "do it", its not a favorite mp, even among the better V D's. Read our posts on mp selection, the good "student" mps are frequently recommended by our teachers. I'd suggest, on further mp shopping, you take your barrel, so as to try the tenon-socket fitting before you buy. Much luck, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

Just get a tech to trim a bit off the tenon. I had the same problem a few years back.
