I want to ask about Vandoren mouthpiece,
I'm an amateur and my clarinet is YCL-450N with Vandoren B44 mpc and BG Standard Ligature and I'll buy a new mouthpiece.
My choice is between Vandoren M13 Lyre, M15, M30, 5RV Lyre, and B40 Lyre.

Maybe you can suggest me, what mouthpiece is good for me??
I prefer a dark, warm, rcih with more flexibility,

Thank you

Buy a size 8 shoe, and make it fit......

I say that as you need to try them and are what you are comfortable with and get that sound.

I don't like vandoren as I find them too bright for me.

David,

Which mouthpiece do you prefer?

Backun, Greg Smith, Genussa, Fobes, and Hite (not sure currently if what the company that bought them out is producing though).

What counts is what works for you.

I can add, before playing carefully check the physical dimensions for symmetry, such as rails and rail-tip intersections, and rail curves with a gauge. I find only a small percent pass such tests.

Richard, I doubt most people have the tools necessary to perform such tests. Also, to test a mouthpiece and then discard it before playing would be to pass on a potentially great mouthpiece for that particular person. Who cares how it measures?

I have seen some very nice 5RV lyre mouthpieces. I have one. Something about that design ... works.

But, yeah, Vandoren wouldn't be my first stop on the mouthpiece highway. My advice is always to get a good old Chedeville (or other) blank and send it to one of our many mouthpiece greats. The Zinners are probably one of the best things ever to come along. I just never got into them.

To answer your question directly: M30.

M30 or B40 Lyre are both really great mouthpieces.

No matter what mouthpiece I try, and trust me, I have tried everything... I end up back on the M30. For me it just "fits". I like it.

given the correct reed strength and mouthpiece combo, you'll sound like yourself on each that you try. Try a many as you can, although if you are in fact located where your ISP indicates, that may be a challenge.

Try them all! 5RV lyre is the brightest. M30 will need slightly harder reeds. M13 and M15 will need /much/ harder reeds.
