I have posted this query on the Fingering BBoard but have had no response as yet so I hope it is alright to ask again here.
I have not been playing very long and would value some advice on this fingering query. I am working on a piece from Demnitz Fundamental Scale and Chord Studies. The piece is in F minor and calls for a middle C# to be followed by a low E# then a G# then back to the C#. Unless I am missing a trick I cannot see a way of using alternate pinkies for all these notes. If this is indeed the case what in your opinion is the best way of tackling this sequence and what side does the E# fit in the best?
Thank you in anticipation.

I would slide my pinky from the low F (E#) key onto the G# key, that is probably the easiest transition to make. Unless you have an alternate Eb/Ab (which if you are a beginner you probably do not but you will know if you do because there will be five keys for the left hand pinky, not four) then your only option is to slide a pinky somewhere. In my opinion it is easiest to slide the right hand pinky from F(E#) to G# as noted above, but you could try sliding from C# to the left hand F(E#) key. You are going to have to slide somehow, experiment and see what works best for you.

If it's in Fminor, then the notes are Db F Ab Db, not C# E# G# C#. Don't confuse the issue!
davidsampson is right that you need to slide the right little finger from F to Ab:
Db F Ab Db
L R R! L
However, he is wrong to suggest that you can avoid sliding if you have a clarinet with a left-hand Ab. The left-hand Ab is of no value in this situation, because if you try to use it you end up with:
Db F Ab Db
L R L L!!!!!!!!!
with a near-impossible left-hand slide rather than a difficult right-hand slide.

Let me get this straight...
mid Db- R
low F- L
low Ab- R
mid Db- L
Why does one need to slide?

skygardner - I assume that by "middle C#" (or Db) is actually meant the chalumeau Db, just above middle C, which requires the left-hand little finger.
If this is actually the Db in the low clarion then of course no sliding is required.

Thank you all for taking the time to answer.
Of course if I asked the question properly I wouldn't have confused the issue so. I should have said that the piece is in F sharp minor. Sorry.
I didn't think there would be any alternative other than sliding one or other pinky and have been trying both ways. I wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something that I wasn't yet experienced to know about.
Thanks again.

If all the notes are the lowest C# E# F# C# then if it's not too fast what I would do is probably move from right to left during the E# or from left to right during the F# (would decide which when I actually tried it). If this isn't clear what I mean is change the fingering while playing the note.

Thank you clarnibass. This piece is in triplets so is a bit fast for me to try that method yet. My fingers still don't move as fast as I wish they would but hopefully that will come with time and practice. I will certainly remember your advice for slower pieces.
