Universal Clarinet Case Review & Pics +++

Overall, it appears to be a nice case for what I need, a slim & compact case to fit into my PT Metro Bag.

Measurements: 14x8x3"
3 inches is the average. It is smaller on one end and slightly larger on the end where the bell compartment lies.

It's lightweight w/ decent clasps. The handle *is* very small so it would be impractical to carry it on its own in my opinion. I have very slim fingers and there wasn't much room there for a decent grasp.

Interior: Not much room but if you are looking for a case for the reasons I was, this shouldn't be a problem. It will be enough for cork grease, pencils, small screwdrivers, or other small items. I will likely only store my anti-tarnish packet in the case. Everything else I'll store in the PT bag. The material is plush like most case of this type. Not too much padding beneath but I believe the clarinet will be protected well despite that. My older Selmer case that I got w/ my first clarinet was similar in that aspect, not too much padding.

It fits my R-13 pretty well. It is designed so that the keys on the lower joint angle down a bit as opposed to it laying w/ the thumb rest straight down. It will take some getting used to putting my clarinet in its case differently but that's not really a problem.

So, if you are looking for a small and compact case, pochette style, this may very well be for you. It fits into my PT Metro Bag w/ extra room on top and it's not too tight on the sides.

If you have any questions on something I didn't think to address, please feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer.

Ashley, it sounds like a good little case for someone looking for something small and light to be carried in another bag. Make sure the lower keys don't sit opened against the side; it would lead to miss aligning the lower keys and create a leak. My A clarinet does that in my double case so I keep a band around the left hand pinky keys to keep them closed when it is in my case. Good luck with your new case. ESP www.peabody.jhu.edu/457
