Hello.
I have been playing a boehm system B-flat Soprano clarinet for about 7 years now, and I just purchased an E-flat soprano clarinet. The E-flat is in Albert System, do I need a different mouthpiece than I would for Boehm System E-flat? Also, being a bit of a "Vandoren Junkie," I was checking out the Vandoren website and noticed that they have white master and black master reeds for Oehler/Albert clarinets, but do they come for E-flat? or is there a reed that is good for E-flats other than Vandoren? I appreciate any help, Thanks.
Oh by the way, I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but incase it does, my E-flat is a Buffet-Crampon et Companie that dates back to 1886. On my B-flat I use Vandoren 3,5+ 56 Rue Lepic with a Luyben Ligurature but am going to upgrade to a Vandoren Leather Ligurature and Vandoren 5RV13 Profile 88 mouthpiece (my current one is a Premier by Hite), and am thinking about getting a Vandoren 5RV for my E-flat.

Sorry to just bombard you guys with questions, but is it fairly easy to learn the Albert system after playing Boehm system for seven years? I noticed it has slide type roller things on the bottom keys like a saxophone, so will the fact that I play bari sax make it easier?

There’s a good reason that we don’t use that system anymore but it is interesting. Any clarinet that old may or may not fit today’s mouthpieces. You will just have to try it. Black master Bb reeds fit and play well on a modern Eb mouthpiece. Many players use Bb reeds but cut the bark off a bit with a garden tool and sometimes sand down the sides if it bothers them that their too wide, that never bothered me though. Thanks for the help. I was origionally going to get the boehm system, but I saw the Albert and saw how old it was and instantly fell in love with the beauty of the instrument and the rareness (I'm a sucker for things out of the norm ^.^). Thanks for the advisery, Ed, I will probably see if any of my classmates have an E-flat mouthpiece (though I doubt it), so I may just go to the music shop and see if I could try a mouthpiece before buying one. I'll definatly invest in some Black Master B-flat reeds, but I think I will buy one or two Vandoren traditionals just to try. I definately am looking foward to learning the Albert system and hopefully it's not so out of tune that it can't be fixed (or at least helped a little).

My daughter uses cut-down VD White Master reeds with her eefer and gets great results. Depends on the design of the mouthpiece, what will work best.
