"2010 ClarinetFest will be in Austin, Texas and 2011 ClarinetFest will be held in North Ridge (Los Angeles), California."

From the "So how was Clarfest" thread.

Actually that's Northridge (I grew up in nearby Burbank CA).

I assume it's going to be held at Cal State Northridge?

Thanks for the clarification!

The ICA website doesn't yet specify the exact location. There's an active link to the Porto, Portugal event next year but the other two links aren't active yet. <www.clarinet.org/fests/>
At the business meeting the exact location of the 2010 Austin, Texas Fest was announced, but there was some question as to the venues of the Northridge location in 2011. The couple assigned to organize that one were talking about using some new structures that are under construction. So we'll have to wait for further announcements.

Great news for those of us who live in Texas. See you there! Austin is way too beautiful and it'll be a good time.

Brenda,

Since I'm a resident of Austin I, too, was totally pleased to learn that ClarinetFest 2010 will be held in The Live Music Capital of the World. I had the pleasure of attending the International Double Reed Society annual convention in Austin two or three years ago (as a guest of my oboe playing wife), and I can tell everyone on this board that the University of Texas at Austin has tremendous facilities for a convention like ClarinetFest. There are numerous, excellent recital halls, both small and large, large rooms (choir and band halls) that will likely house the exihibits and vendors. The Butler School of Music has four or five floors of first-class accomodations, so I think everyone will enjoy their Austin experience.

The UT campus is large, so bring comfortable walking shoes and be prepared for long hikes and/or commutes between accomodations and the convention activities. It will likely be hot and humid in the summertime, but all buildings are (sometime excessively) air conditioned. Above all, though, be prepared to enjoy the Texas hospitality and friendly atmosphere that we're known for. The official motto of the City of Austin is "Keep Austin Weird", so I'd expect everybody who attends will gain a new appreciation of our capitol city and the eclectic people who populate it.

I hope to have the opportunity to meet a lot of you in person two years from now. "Hook 'em Horns!"

Lynn

A clarinet choir featured on "Austin City Limits." How weird would THAT be?

Best regards,
