 ASO principal

I notice the Adelaide Symphony is recruiting for a principal clarinet. Open to anyone (mostly Australian orchestras limit their recruiting to Australia and New Zealand).

Without music, the world would be grey, very grey.

Having lived in Adelaide my whole life, i would know that:

The ASO has been looking for a principal clarinet player for the past 3 years.

The ASO is still looking for a principal player after 3 years so please audition.

I was recently forwarded an email saying the Queensland Orchestra principle clarinet position has now been permanently filled. Irit Silver was on a trial period and has now secured the spot, my teachers the associate principle. Who would be a favourite for the adelaide position? Anyone know who's auditioning? 2E.

The same people who auditioned the last 2 times.

They should have awarded it to the acting principal.

Queensland is an exception for even awarding the job on the first go. And even then they extended the trial period.

What's depressing is I went to college with Irit. Anyway, currently Dean Newcomb is the Principal of ASO (acting, I guess).

As an avid attender of the ASO, I can clarify Dean Newcombe is not the ASO's acting principal.

Dean has recently joined the ASO, occasionally on bass clarinet, occasionally on 2nd Bb, and for the Mahler 2 he was 3rd I believe.

Interesting. I'll have to ask him again, I'm sure he went straight from Principal of Macau to Principal of ASO. I could be confusing Macau with ASO though. Happens ALL the time...!

Hi, i did start working with ASO last year as acting Principal Bass Clarinet, also playing 3rd, 2nd, Principal, Eb and Bassett. I was recently appointed as Principal Clarinet of ASO and am on trial until May 09. I was working as acting Principal in Macau and was offered the full-time position but turned it down to stay in Adelaide.
I didn't realise this forum existed! good to know!

Dean
