Folk.
Despite further web searches, four unanswered e-mails to his publisher, and a gaggle of inquiries sent to individuals, I still haven't been able to find Gordon Lewin's date (or dates).
I'm performing his "Views of the Blues" this coming Thursday, and need them for the program notes.
Given that I only have a few days to go, can anyone either provide this information or point me to where I might get it in a short time?
Thanks.
B.

According to the liner notes of the CD "Times for Flying" by Colin Lawson and Victoria Soames, he was born in 1921 and wrote Views of the Blues in 1985. He is still living today.

Sadly Gordon Lewin passed away last May this year. This his is obituary on the Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Great Britain website (CASS) - http://www.cassgb.org/news.php?id=5
Gordon Lewin obituary
"These are the saddest words I have to write. As a true friend of Gordon, you will know he has been so very ill over the past couple of months. He fought hard against cancer, the cruel disease which caused so much pain, and tried everything within his power to live. But sadly, on Wednesday 28th May, in the very early hours of the morning, Gordon passed away.
Whether family, friends, colleagues or pupils… he has touched our lives in a deep and profound way. His enormous creativity, talent, and prolific work as a performer, composer, arranger and writer, are an astonishing legacy which will continue to live for us all, and for the music world of future generations. And his gentleness, kindness and care for everyone in his life, is a testament to the truly good man that he was."

I thank you for the information.
I'd forgotten that "Views" was on "Times for Flying," but it wouldn't have mattered anyway.
I lent the CD to a student, and guess what...!
Thanks again.

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Gordon and his wife when I was in
England for my brother's wedding around 2005. I love his music and I interviewed him for the Clarinet Journal around 2001 (somewhere in there...) and he was an absolute joy to get to know.
We had exchanged Christmas cards for several years after that, and around 2007, I think that's when the cards stopped. I have since wondered what happened, knowing that his age, he would probably have fallen ill or worse.
He was a talented, kind man whom I will never forget. RIP, dear Gordon.
