I am repeatedly amazed when I hear something I've never heard before. The other morning I heard G.A.'s "A Jazz Symphony" and thought it was something contemporary until I googled on him. Why he never became as popular as Gershwin is a mystery to me.

Yeh, I just ordered the book based on the fact I'd never even heard of the guy.
I'm aware of the "mechanique" piece but I'm not sure that it alone would have prevented him from getting more exposure in the music world.....compared to Gershwin his contemporary.

What scandalized critics in 1924 now sounds ingenious, funny and a bit snotty -- like Ibert's Divertissement, if louder.
