Is there a question here or is this just a service?
I find it interesting that many of the 2nd parts they’re asking also have demanding bass parts so the person winning this job will probably be playing bass when they perform these pieces. In the Bartok, they should have asked for the last cadenza since the bass and third part has this and that person would be playing that cadenza with the first player instead of playing the second clarinet part in the second cadenza. Great resource, but I found the use of excerpt books for some pieces very disappointing.

I auditioned for them a few years back for the principle job. Not nearly a many excerpts then as there are now for this job.

Just looking through them again and did anyone notice the Bartok Mandarin, they have set the Eb suff in the 3rd game as Bb, page 33. Am I wrong on this? It's been a good while since i've played it. Though it was supposed to be a bass job?

It seems that the most difficult exposed part of the La Valse Bass part has been omitted from the published excerpts. Also, it is difficult to understand why they have not included the big solo in Mahler 6th, nor anything from the symphonies of Shostokovitch, from which I would have thought a bare minimum would be the solo from Shos 8th last movement, and probably that of the first movement of Shos 6th, with that of the last movement of Shos 4th for safety's sake. It makes me wonder if the Flems play this kind of stuff.

I notice that at least the excerpt from mahler 4 was simply copied straight out of the Drapkin book. I am going to check the others.

I'd hate to see the principal's audition excerpts!

Well Ryder, when I auditioned for the principle postion the excertps were all the usual, in fact I'll have somewhere in my orchestral excerpt box the list, I'll dig it out and come back with the list
