ClarinetFest 2008--impact of floods, gas price

Hi,

I had planned to attend this years ClarinetFest in Kansas City next month, but with the price of gas coupled with the floods, I don't think I'll go.

I hope it is a success both musically and for the venders, but I suspect others will be cancelling their plans as well.

And I had really wanted to try Rossi clarinets. Oh well. Next year it is supposed to be in Portugal, I believe, and I will not fly, so...does anyone know where it will be in 2010?

Have the floods impacted the ClarinetFest site?

What about taking the train/bus/carpool?

I was concerned about flooding as well. But on the news they stated that the river that overflowed its banks in Iowa and which flooded the capital flows into the Mississippi river. I checked the Atlas this morning and confirmed this on the map.

But Kansas City is southwest of that area and is bordered by the Missouri River. The Missouri River, too, eventually winds its way southeast into the Mississippi River.

Perhaps those living close to Kansas City could let us know what the situation is there?

About gas prices... Europe's prices are usually much worse than the US. I can't imagine that you'd be better off in Portugal, plus you'd have to add in the cost of your flight. Gas prices in Canada are worse than in the US, so we're better off buying our first refill once we cross the border. It's high anywhere!

I wish they were held in the "on season" instead of when they are.

I have been planning (and saving money) to go for months. Nothing will stop me!

I've been saving back some extra money to compensate for the rising gas prices though. this is the first time where it is located reasonably close to me, so i have to go this year. and it's my only "real" vacation this summer. it will also be my very first Clarinetfest. YAY!!

Clarinetfest or bust!!

They are a blast.

And you will hear pieces that you can't imagine.

Good and really bad.

2010 isn't set yet... Portugal should be really gorgeous. Hot, but gorgeous.
