Hey everybody...
I am looking into buying a wooden clarinet. I found a Buffet model that I really like. It is really expensive though ($2500). I was wondering if anybody knows of good quality, wooden clarinets, that are a little less in price. Oh yah...one more thing...I am kinda getting the feeling that I am the youngest person that visits this site. I am 14 (turning 15 in November though). Please tell me if I am the youngest?!?! Well that's all for now,
JILL ;Þ

For which model? An R13 should not be setting you back this much.

Mark is correct. You can get an R-13 for about 1700 mail order.
I would not use a wooden clarinet for marching band. Rain and cold are not good for wood and pads.

You can order a catologuge and get a good wood clarinet for about $500 or there abouts. Thats what I paid for my Buffet E11. And thats a great clarinet too. As for being the youngest person, its great that you found a place to help you. Its always great to be able to ask a lor of questions to the experts. On and by the way, I'm 16 about to be 17 and I've been coming here for all three almost four years I've been playing. And its been a lot of help.

Jill, you may find as I did that age doesn't seem to matter here. You are probably not the youngest as I am not the oldest -- thought I might be when I found this BB. I may be the newest *player* though. Had a clarinet for four days now and don't have the slightest idea what I'm doing nor why I'm doing it. Especially after the discouraging words I heard today, but I'm still hanging in there.

Don't let them get you down. It is a special joy to be able to *play* music and not be limited to just listening all the time.

The harder it is, the more good it will do you. BUT, if you don't make progress don't try harder--change your approach. I decided to quit reading music after a number of years because I wasn't getting where I wanted to go. It was very difficult to give up sheet music because without it I couldn't play a note. It took a complete change of approach, but now I play by ear in all keys, and I can jam with informal groups without needing any music.
