Help needed finding Houston (southwest area) clarinet instructor!
Author: Peter9788

Hi - I'm sorry to post this request but this is the first time I've run across anything that may help me (after numerous googles and dead end phone calls). I played the clarinet from middle school to high school, then stopped in college. Following my first year of med school, I've realized I'm in dire need of an outlet, and I'd like to get back into things.

I am looking for a clarinet teacher in the missouri city/sugar land/stafford area (anywhere within 20 minutes of hope, ideally). Are there any clarinet instructors out there? Or do any of you have any tips on how to find a clarinet teacher in my area? I need to start as soon as possible because time will be very limited come August! Either post back or email me at petermuyo@yahoo.com

Thanks!

call Dulles High School in Sugarland, speak to the orchestra director. or email him.

also ask john butler , also in sugarland http://www.cork-and-pad.woodwind.org/

one of those 2 should be able to help you out.

Suggest to try both (band director though more than the Orchestra director) and Butler as the director would know personality and butler would know talent.

Both are important.

I say Band more than Orchestra as the Band director would have tens of times more clarinetists who potentially have studied.

Robert F. Wall, Clear Lake Symphony principal clarinet. Wonderful musician, and teacher. Taught my granddaughter about 6 years ago.

Peter,

I teach clarinet in SW Houston.

I could make room for another motivated student.

I grew up in Fort Bend County (went to Clements HS). I studied with Pamela Bingham, who is a fantastic teacher. I took from her from age 9 all the way through high school, making all-state my freshman year. She has an M.M. from Rice (studied with Richard Pickar) and when I took from her she used to sub./extra for the Houston Symphony. These days she plays a lot of swing and klezmer.

Her swing group's website is http://www.jivesisters.com and if you click "contact us," it will give you all her contact info (since she leads the group).

She's fabulous! I can't recommend her enough! :-)

I'd contact the band directors at Clements High School - they have, by far, the best band program in Fort Bend. They also had a couple of all-state clarinets this year. Ask them who teaches their top students.
