How do I gliss on clarinet?
Author: Amanda Capps

I'm learning Gershwin's Rhapsody In Blue and can't figure out how to gliss up to the C. Do I bend, tighten, loosen?
What do I do with my fingers? Help!

Amanda, Mark is correct. When you do your search include the search words ... PORTAMENTO .... SMEAR ... BENDING.

Much of what you are hearing in the beginning of "Rhapsody" is bending of notes, Portamento. Mark C. & others have written alot about this ... including lots of good ideas on how you can practice learning it.

Good luck. mw

From the D (2 above middle C), slide them off one by one while going VERY loose. In your throat and mouth, go from OOO to EEE as you go up. That's all there is too it!
