I am thinking of buying a bass clarinet for my son in France (Paris)in our holiday there.
Can someone help me how to get prices and places information.
Could it be done in the factory (Selmer, Buffet or Leblanc)?
Thanks
Jacob

Try Vincent Genot, in Paris, at
<a href="http://www.musique-et-art.com">www.musique-et-art.com</a>
Some of their prices are extremely reasonable. Note that HT = excluding tax, for non-residents of European Union. TTC = including tax, for European residents.

However some companies have to pay tarriffs to import their goods into the US. If you buy overseas you have to declare and pay the tarriff when you bring the goods into the US

Eoin is right. I bought my clarinet from Genod, and have always received excellent sales and after-sales service from them. But there are several stores around the Conservatory, including Le Meretrier and Feeling Music that you should check as well, along with Paul Bleuscher just off the Place de la Bastille. Both Buffet and Selmer are at Mantes-la-Ville, but I think they do not sell directly to private individuals except sometimes in the case of professionals. But the shops I have mentioned should all have a wide range of models and prices.

Many stores in Rue de Rome (Paris 8eme) sell good instruments, as beejay says. Brands are Buffet, Selmer, Leblanc and Yamaha. You can try with Buffet (01 30 98 54 55). Selmer has a store in 18 rue La Fontaine au Roi, Paris (10eme or 11eme, I don't remember, but I've put the address, phone and fax number, on a thread about french bassoons, some weeks ago). Good luck.
