 Rico Reed Vitalizer Pack
Author: Iceland clarinet

Does anyone know what humidity level is inside the pack that comes with each box of Reverse reeds? And is the pack of the same quality as the ones sold seperatly with the humidity level written on the pack ?

I'm sure David Blumberg will chime in soon with his opinion.

Well, since you asked :)

There is "currently" and "past". What I've seen currently is that they are including a real vitalizer pack which is 38% aprox.

That is only and I say only for storage as it is much too dry for an active reed.

You can tell that the pack is a real one (real as it actually works...) by it having a couple of crystals in the pack and over time after the box is opened it will harden. Also a real one does have the humidity % labeled on it like the ones which are the %73, etc. higher active reed usage ones.

Lately I have been seeing the real packs instead of packs which to me were only filled with water - they never, ever, ever harden nor got any crystals in them. So they were (to me) dummy packs.

Rico hasn't commented on that and it's only my observation though I have packs from last july that haven't changed at all since....

A real vitalizer pack will expire after 60 days or so and harden.

Either way, I'd throw it out after opening the box as it won't do you any good after the box is open.

btw, it's Reserve, not Reverse though maybe I'll suggest that line ;)

btw, just having the box be sealed like it is for shipping is to me a very good thing and does help - Vandoren does that too with their Rue 56 Reed.

Revision - the pack is 32%. When you open the box (don't have to break the seal yet as it is seen on the bottom of the plastic case) you can see the packet and under the word Vitalizer there should be a number next to Percent RH (32, just looked at a box) - no number then it's a dummy pack.

One more question since I don't have it available in store here in Iceland how long can you store the Vitalizer pack until you open it and use it for 45-60 days period? Could I just order like 6-8 packs at once and let it last me for a whole year ?

As they are packed now they will last several years in storage. The old style was in a clear cellophane style pack which didn't last long at all. Current ones are in a white plastic outside with foil style lined inside.
