Has anyone any advice to give on a mouthpiece/ligature combination for a Buffet e11 with original mouthpiece/ligature?

I have a Buffet-Evette, which is probably very similar to an E11(E13!), and I started out on a Hite Premiere. It's a plastic mouthpiece, but it's one of the best out there. I would also reccomend trying one of JD Hite's hard rubber mouthpieces, or VanDoren's B45, which is very popular. Regular VanDoren reeds are also excellent reeds, and that makes a big difference. If at all possible, try to try-out the mouthpiece before you buy it, and remember that different mouthpieces are going to take different strength reeds to play with the same resistance. As far as ligatures go, I've wasted alot of money on the "latest" reed-holding technology, but the best ligatures I've ever used have been simple inverted ligatures, and the best of that group, to me, has been the Hamilton Gold or Silver Bb Clarinet Ligature. Not only do they work flawlessly, but they are some of the most beautiful ligatures I have ever seen. They only cost $30, but they are 10 times better than those "Advanced" nylon-titanium-handwoven-Chilean-sheep-wool-freaky ligatures.Good luck!

P.S. Try these two companies, they've always been good to me, and they'll save you a bundle over the corner shop:

There are so many great ones out there but here are a couple of suggestions.

Inexpensive:
Hite Premier or Fobes Debut mouthpiece
Luyben Ligature (nverted

Moderate price:
Vandoren B45 mouthpiece
Rovner ligature (inverted)

Don't skimp on reeds. Buy good ones. You've spent good money for a clarinet and are about to invest in a decent mouthpiece and ligature. Buying cheap reeds is false economy as the reed is the generator of the entire sound. Reed preference, as with mouthpieces and ligatures, is quite individual but I would suggest staying away from plain Ricos and the gimmicky Flavorreeds. Just about every other reed has its devoted followers. While there are many good ones, you can find these fairly easily.

Rico Royal
Mitchell Lurie
Vandoren (these run harder than the other two so buy about a half grade softer).

I'm sorry - that ligature is a Harrison, not a Hamilton. Please forgive me.

I have been using a J&D Hite model J hard rubber mouthpiece on my E11, and am quite satisfied with it. It seems easier to produce sound than any others I've used . I tried the Van Doren B45 but it didn't work out as well as my Hite. I am currently using a Lurie number 3 reed .

I don't know what's right for anyone else, but I use an Eddie Daniels custom mouthpiece (he also makes standards, but the custom isn't because I'm wasting money--just because my clarinet teacher knows him) and a Rovner Lite ligature. I love my E11 and the mouthpiece and ligature have worked great for it. Good luck for yours :).
