it turned out to be a very nice clarinet.

I know there are several people on this board who are bitter about amati clarinets. Well have you tried a new one recently? IF you have you would know what Il talking about. I got the chance to play on the other day. I liked it quite a bit. IT spoke clearly and with presence. IT was very easy to sound and had a very even scale. It was in tune with its self just a little sharp with every thing else. The right mouthpiece fixed that. It also had a nice rich sound and had a large dynamic range. It also is a pretty little horn. it might have been that particular instrument, maybe I got lucky.

Any way I like it. Its not a buffet R-13 but its an E 12.

Bitter isn't the right word. I've never tried one that was any good - bad keywork, holes with chips, intonation all over the place, etc. - and I've tried a couple of new ones very recently. Glad yours is a good one.

Im sorry That you have had such bad experiences with these instruments. I guess I am lucky. I noticed the keywork to have high suspension but other than that I cant say that it is much different from any other clarinet I have played. The one I have was just delievered. maybe the ones you played had been in storage for quite some time.

No, they were fresh from the factory. I have a Czech grand piano (Petrof) that comes from an area very close to the Amati, and the importer of Petrofs here also has Amatis sent to him for inspection.

When did you play them?

That is so strange. It is very odd to have a company that is that skitsophrenic(sp?).

WHat models did you play?
I have the 314 and have played the 201. The 201 was nice but I like the 314 better.

About 6 weeks back was the last time.

Everything they sent - I didn't pay close attention. None were any good IMNSHO. Perhaps we're looking at them differently? I wish they were good (the price was nice) but they just weren't finished properly.

Well they aren't the most finished instruments. Like I said they aren't R 13s. Or concertos but they are similar to the E 11,12,international and they are similar to Leblanc's lower end wood clarinets.

I also enjoy the full Boehm. (minus low Eb)

I was wondering why their A clarinet is full Boehm. You wont have to transcribe the A clarinet part.
