HII WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME WITH A SERIES 10 SELMER CLARINET SER. X5054. THE CLARINET IS VERY OLD. I THINK 50'S.I BOUGHT IT RECENTLY ON EBAY FOR NOT MUCH MONEY AS IT WAS MISSING A BARREL AND IT APPEARS TO BE MISSING A RING OF SOME SORT AS THERE IS AN INDENT AT THE TOP OF THE TOP JOINT WHERE A RING WOULD FIT. I PUT A RING THERE FROM A PLASTIC BARREL AND IT FITS OKAY BUT DOES NOT LOOK RIGHT AS THE RING HAS THE USUAL THREE LINES ON THE CIRCUMFERENCE FACE. I WOULD THINK A PLAIN RING MIGHT BE RIGHT.I CANNOT FIND A SERIES 10 ANYWHERE TO LOOK AT SO I CAN SEE WHAT GOES IN THAT INDENT. THE SERIES 10'S THAT I HAVE SEEN ON EBAY DONT HAVE ANYTHING THERE JUST THE WOOD OF COURSE..I OVERHAULED THE CLARINET AND USE A BARREL FROM A BUFFET BUT THE CLARINET PLAYS SHARP ON THE G, A, B.C ABOVE THE STAFF BUT IS GREAT EVERYWHER ELSE. I GUESS THE PROPER BARREL HAS A DIFFERENT INSIDE DIAMETER.I KNOW I AM ASKING A LOT BUT THIS CLARINET BLOWS LIKE NO OTHER AND I WOULD LIKE TO GET A BARREL AND THE PROPER RING TO FIT IN THE INDENT.THANKS MILLIONS

Sounds like it has a repaired (banded) crack and the band has been removed. That's why you aren't finding other Series 10's with a band there.

I own and currenlty play both a Selmer Series 10 S, and a Selmer Series 10 S II, I will take some pics and email you if you'd like. (and someone tells me how to post pics on here)
Also the reason , I would guess you are playing sharp is that Selmer Barrels for clarinets tuned to A440 are 66.5mm , and Buffets are a bit different.

This clarinet (X5054) is from the '70s.
The normal barrel length for a Series 10 is 67mm.

THAT MAKES SENSE ABOUT THE REPAIRED CRACK WITH A RING AND THE RING IS MISSING. I WILL SEARCH THE INDENT TO SEE IF I CAN FIND A CRACK.

THANKS FOR THE INFO. AS FAR AS ADDING PICS THERE IS A BOX AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS BIG BOX THAT I AM TYPING IN. IT SAYS ADD ATTACHMENT. SO I GUESS YOU CLICK ON IT AND YOU CAN PROBABLY BROWSE FOR THE PICS AND CLICK ON THE PICS WHEN YOU FIND THEM. THAT SHOULD ADD THE PICS TO YOUR MESSAGE. I THINK.

THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION THAT WAS VERY HELPFUL. I HAVE TRIED LONGER BARRELS BUT THEY HAVE BEEN BUFFET BARRELS THEY ONLY MADE IT PLAY FLAT ON THE BOTTOM SO I GUESS I NEED TO HAVE A SELMER PROPER LENGHT BARREL BEFORE KNOWING FOR SURE. THANKS AGAIN

I would just order a barrel, and tell them it is for a selmer 10, most makers will work to ensure their barrels are not the source of intonation issues.

Or you might want to order one from the makers who are sponsors of this board. You can get excellent barrels from Walter Grabner, Greg Smith and Alan Segal. Look at the links on the right of the web pages and click on the one for mouthpieces and barrels.
BTW... typing with all capitals is considered "shouting" on most online forums.

I'm trying to determine the barrel length for my Selmer Series 10, serial number starting with W. I've done a lot of web searching, only finding that 65 to 66mm is considered "standard" for a Series 10. I've tried to measure it. It could be either 65 or 66 mm, but doesn't look like it could be 67mm, to my eyes.
Was there a standard length? Is there a good source of information I haven't found?

I had one years ago and I seem to recall mine was 66. What is most important is what length pays in tune. Try both 65 and 66 and see.
