Anyone had any RECENT experiences with replating either silver, gold or how about "hamilton" like the Yamaha CSG-H??? Am considering, but the threads on this are somewhat dated. thanks

About 25 years agoI had Weiner replate my nickel R13 with silver. Excellent job.

Yes, I had my (not very old) R13 Bb replated with silver last summer. Very happy with it.

I had my 1969 R-13 replated in gold about 5 months ago by Anderson Plating. They also did an excellent job.

I've had various bits of keywork and other fittings silver plated recently, and this plating is just as good as the plating I've had done previously (over two years ago).
But good results are down to the preparation as well as the platers.
I think it's somewhere around £100 for a set of keys to be plated (but the cost is variable depending on the company), but that doesn't include any preparation work such as filing, papering up and polishing keys to smooth out scratches and other blemishes before sending off to the platers, or fitting the keys after they've been plated.
It is major work to have everything (that's non-ferrous) plated, and will cost a lot more than an overhaul.
The only thing I've had gold plated was a stainless steel Lawton bari sax mouthpiece, and that was over 10 years ago and it's still looking good - 3 microns on the mouthpiece itself and 1 micron on the ligature and reedguard.
