In-Paris Shop to buy "C" clarinet
Author: terry
Date:   2008-03-26 10:29

I will be in Paris (France) in a couple of weeks, and would like to check out some music stores that carry used, but working "C" clarinets. I will bring my mouthpiece and several reeds. Could you please provide names, full addresses! (I am not Euro...) and any hints of what may be different than doing the same thing in the US/Canada (which I have dome successfully more than once?)

thanks!

Quintette Musique currently has a Noblet.
I bought my Marigaux from there.

That's a good price for a Noblet C. It's about £450/£500. If I didn't have a tax bill to pay i'd snap that up.

I owned a Noblet C once and it was really a pretty good instrument. If set up properly it would work well for you.

thanks,
This is close to the Marais area we hope to walk.

I had the google map, and sent a babel-fish translated e-mail to the proprietor about woodwind concerts and of course the "C" clarinet. I hope he checks his e-mail!
cheers!

Oh. [frown]. Quel dommage!
Then I consider myself doubly lucky to have found my Marigaux in his shop. He even played it for me on the phone to demonstrate it was in fine condition.

I know it might not be as much fun as purchasing in France, but Tom Ridenour has an excellent C clarinet. Dr. Henderson (the Forte) also has a C. I think both of these would very nice for you. One of our clarinetists in a band in which I play uses one to play the 2nd oboe part on occasion (the Ridenour Lyrique) and she likes it very much. It has a very nice tone and good feel in the hands. It sounds much like the Buffet R-13 C clarinet. I haven't tried the Dr.'s C, so can't say much about it. But his Forte Bb is a nice little instrument.
