characteristics of good beginner mouthpieces

I know the subject of which mouthpieces are particularly recommended for beginners has been repeated addressed, but what exactly makes a mouthpiece more suitable for a beginner? Tip opening? I'm assuming that a less than optimal mouthpiece (and mouthpiece/reed combinaton) for a beginner can predispose one to bad habits like biting. I'm beginning to think maybe I should set my B45 aside for a while and try something else, like maybe a Clark Fobes Debut.

First, inspect carefully for symmetry; many windows are not centered IMO. . The two corners ,where the side rails meet the tip facing, should be identical, for example. The rails should themselves be identical in dimensions. If it passes inspection, try before buy. Get several, on approval. No two are identical. I have several Fobes Debuts; they are very good.
