I happen to like mine and use it all the time to give my reeds (out of the box) the best profile for optimum performance. With minor balancing, most reeds (VD regulars) "out of the box" become playable and, on the average, six of ten are excellant. Has anyone else had the opportunity to use this device and what were your results??????

At ClarinetFest 2000 I spent time w/Ben Armato, who said that the key is to 1st test-play a reed to try & determine characteristics that may assist in improving the reed. Doing otherwise, would be like salting food before tasting. I think when you buy a "gizmo", you have to be careful that you don't treat it like a hammer, because everything might start looking like a nail! mw

I always test-play my reeds after thoroughly soaking them in water. I then let them dry (cure) for a few days before re-playing them as they often will change. It is then that I employ the use of the Wizard--if needed--to "profile" the reed to my needs. After that, a few sessions of balancing to my mp usually produces a good to excellant reed. Your analogy about the nail is correct. Keep pounding (practicing) and good luck.

Just exactly how does the Reed Wizard work? I'd like to know more about it. I did get the flyer for it but it really doesn't explain how it works. How do you get the measurements into it to reproduce what you want? I don't know anyone who has one of these devices and would like more info before I order one.
