Do any of you know any for clarinet and sax and/or other instruments? I have heard of these quartets for mixed reeds by a frenchmen....

Just performed the Walton Facades (fl-pc, cl-A/Bb/bass, alto sax, tpt, vcla, percussion, male and female speaker)...but you really need a conductor.

Plus all the bells and whistles.

There are 21+ movements, so perhaps if you pick and choose appropriately? I have a cd of it without vocalists, so maybe you can 86 those too.

Leon Stein and Henri Tomasi both wrote a piece for WW5 and alto sax. They both feature the saxophone as more or a soloist though.

Try http://splisp.net/Website/New_Search.html

A search for music with clarinet and saxophone gives 21 pieces - though some involve the same person doubling on both instruments.

The search engine seems very buggy, though.

...I just remembered that there was an article in a recent (last 2years) issue of Clarinet Mag that there are several pieces for Cl/Sax/Fl trio.

There is a pro-trio-ensemble that was the source of the article and is also commisioning new works. Does anyone remember who they are?

There are several very well written pieces that include clarinet and saxophone.

There's clarinetist/composer Alfred Prinz's Ballade for clarinet, saxophone and piano.

William Albright's Pit Band for alto saxophone, bass clarinet, and piano.

Gregory Wanamaker's Duo Sonata for clarinet and alto saxophone.

www.gregorywanamaker.com

Tomi Räisänen's Euryale for clarinet, alto saxophone and piano.

I hope that this helps!

Oh, and for larger ensembles, there's music by Evan Chambers.

His "Cold Water, Dry Stone" is scored for clarinet, alto sax, piano, violin, bassoon, and percussion. His Two Hesitations is for flute, clarinet, alto sax (or viola), and piano.

Hi,

I'll probably get stoned and beaten by the purists (particularly the oboe players) but in shows, I often play the oboe part on soprano sax. It's a quick transposition and I think the timbre and color (at least when I try hard) can sound like an oboe. Maybe in the WWQ.

I believe that there is a body of baroque oboe work that has become solo material for alto sax with piano. IMHO being a little creative is not all bad here.

Sopo sax --more like a cor anguish than an oboe!
