 Finding a teacher
Author: Luanne McCray

I've recently moved to Milwaukee and am looking for a teacher for my 11 year old son, who has taken private lessons for the last two years. We're living in the Glendale area so I would prefer to find a teacher close by. I hope someone out there can help me. Thanks, in advance.

I had to make the same search, for myself. The local music shops and sheet music retailers may well have a list.

I would avoid anyone who has lots of students.

Sometimes the higher level of attention will justify higher than average tuition.

Have the boy talk to the teacher, without you. If they don't get along, the effort may be wasted.

Is he serious in his study, or just tooting along (both are okay... especially at 11!) this may direct your search.

I'm an adult beginner and went to the nearby symphony to find my teacher. Although she runs me through the most fundamental stuff imaginable, she has a grasp of what I want to accomplish as the student.

Good luck!
