Hi all!
I'm looking for a backup of my Vandoren B45 mouthpiece. What mouthpieces are similar to the B45 but cheaper? I'm better suited for medium open mouthpieces like the B45, having tried out some more closed mouthpieces.
Are there any good student mouthpieces that have similar tip opening to the B45? There are Hite Premiere, Fobes Debut, Gennusa GE*S.. but they all seem to be fairly closed compared to the B45 and require harder reeds.
I would like to buy it new because I had some bad experience on buying used... I don't mind whether it is plastic or hard rubber.
Thanks for any suggestions!

Geez, I don't know if you guys get charged hefty fees for buying from the States, however, Woodwind and Brasswind is selling Vandoren for $70 US dollars. There's not much besides what you mentioned that is any good for less and certainly nothing with that open a facing.
Just grin and bear it........good mouthpieces only get more expensive from there......much more.

I think the maximum you can spend before getting stung for import duty is about 20 pounds... approx 40 dollars, so you may find something. Even if it's higher, very often, the post office won't bother to follow it up.
The cost of instruments and accessories in the UK is much higher than in the USA - just look at how much Vandorens cost!
Keep an eye on Ebay. I got most of my MPs from there.

The plastic Yamaha mouthpieces are much cheaper than Vandoren. 6C is a bit more closed than a B45, 7C quite a lot more open.

If you are looking for something "like" the B45 then i'm sure you will get plenty of answers. they might not be close enough for you though .. so rather than go mpc hunting for something "similar" why not just cut out alot of potential anguish and $$ and get another B45 ?

I might just look for one off of the popular auction site.
That would be your best bet.

I second the above. The B45 is pretty inexpensive as far as mouthpieces go. Why go cheaper? The quality will be less, and it will just cause frustration. Best thing is to go to a store near you that keeps a bunch in stock so you can be sure to get a good one.
