I have been reading the forum for about a month and really am enjoying it. I play an old G Pruefer L P B Clarinet which I inherited from my Grandfather who played in on the radio years ago. I am 60 yrs old have played it all through high school and am still playing it. I took in in to have it looked at because I had a problem going over the bridge without it talking to my. The repair man said it was time to put in to sleep due to a lot of areas on the horn that were not right. The serial # is 2764. I looked at the thread on the forum on serial # and all I see is 5 numbers for Pruefer. It has a GP logo above the name and LPB is stamped on the clarinet. The octive key wrapes arount the side of the instrument and it has an extra pad and ring on the upper half. Can anybody give me the age and what it might be worth? I am actually more interested in the age. I have wondered about this for years. My grandfather passed away when I was about 3 yrs old so he played it for awile before me. Seeing that I don't plan on playing it anymore, I am looking at buying a new Noblet 45 to take its place. Can anybody tell me anything about it? It sure plays nice. Thanks a lot. RichB

Rough guess, made ca. 1900-1920 based on the wraparound register key and extra ring. Pruefer was a good mid-range American brand, but not highly valued as a collector's item, so your clarinet is worth however much you enjoy playing it.

Hi R B - Dave's info is good, I have a Pr [single-bodied wood] 19/7 [no low Eb] # 2541 [as best I can make out], restored by John Butler [and me ] to playable condition. Yes, I place its age to the 1920's, may find a ser #/date site for these rare birds. I may have reported this before. Prob. was among the "betters" in its time period. ?Value?, I'll likely give it to a museum. Don
Thanx, Mark, Don

Don I think both the Bb and the A will be put on the wall to look at. Does anyone have any information on the Noble 45 which I am trying out for a month. This one is new. Rich
