Pomarico - Small, Medium or Large?
Author: mark weinstein

Just visited the Pomarico Website. After reviewing their offerings in Crystal Mouthpieces, I have decided to try a Sapphire model. The facing chart indicates that the Sapphire model's facing is closest to the B45, which I enjoy playing. and which is a medium open type facing. Also, wondering how ligatures fit the Pomarico mpc? Any problems reported or encountered? Has anybody tried the new 50th anniversary mpc, called the Nigun? Final question: I have never tried putting a mouthpiece patch on Crystal. How well does this work and does one patch's adhesive work better than anothers. Say yamaha v. bg v. bay v. etc. Thanks.

I used to play a pomarico crystal mouthpiece, and I loved it so much. But I changed theachers and he made me change from crystal. So I tried heaps of mouthpieces eg. fobes, bay. But i ended finding the pomarico ebony wood to be the best. But anyway, I had no troubles with ligatures and the mouthpiece at all. The BG leather ligatures look realllllly good over the crystal, but then again, thats personal preference. If you are putting a teach guard (or patch) on the mp, don't use one of those black coloured ones. Get yourself a clear one. Hope this helps.

It does, thanks. I have some Yamama or Bay clear plastic mouthpiece patches around here somewhere. Have some 3M brand but like the others better.

I have "practiced" on old Conn Crystal (at least we think it is crystal) that had deep deep marks in it. Now its hard to play because of those teeth marks. I don't bite, but dscratching is easy for any of us. We have 3 players in the house. So, ity makes sense for us to take good care of what we use, that way the esperience can be shared (in the case of mpcs with a disinfectant spray & good cleaning)!

Hi Mark, I'm Riccardo Clerici from Pomarico factory in Italy. I have to tell you that Nicko was right: on the crystal mouthpieces the best patch is the clear one, and usually our costumers use the BG ligature ( or our "Light Ligature"). However, usually the players that try the Sapphire to find another B45 at the end they buy the Diamond model. Why? Because crystal and plastic are really different crystal is a little bit resistant and even if the openings are similar the results are not exactly the same. I suggest you to try the Diamond too. About the Nigun it is surely too close for you...in any case you are the player and you have to choose the right mouthpiece!
If you may need any information contact me at info@pomaricompieces.com
Many regards
Riky

Riccardo, thanks. Actually, I was hoping that I could find a mouthpuece which could DOUBLE ... band/orchestra AND for use with a more jazzy environment with my Selmer BT. I will try the Diamond but thought it might be TOO BRIGHT (???) for my planned use. Thanks. mw

PS Riccardo, who carries the Pomarico Ligature ??? Haven't seen it listed in any catalogues?? Thanks again. mw

Hi Mark, Our ligature is really particular. We studied it with the help of Mr. Giora Feidman (the king of Klezmer).
It is called "light ligature" because it consists in a single ring. This ligature lets the reed vibrate more freely, and enables the clarinettist to fully appreciate the characteristics of our mouthpieces. By tightening the ligature higher or lower on the body of the mouthpiece you can find the ideal position for getting the best results from the reed. Unfortunately at the moment this ligature is not in the US market. But we are talking with our wholesaler to distribute it.
If you will even travel around Europe you will find it without a problem.
Ciao
Riccardo

Does anyone know of a European Mailorder Firm that (possibly) the Pomaricvo Light Ligatire might be ordered from? Thanks. I will check some of the eBay sellers like Mathhews & report back for any who might have an interest.
