Graham Elliot suggested listening to Draper recordings (in connection with the topic of older clarinets). I have (from the two "Historical Recordings" collections by Clarinet Classics) "Air Varie" (Mohr), part of the Weber concertino, part of the Brahms Quintet, and something called "Variations on 'Home Sweet Home'" by Bishop. The quality of the clarinet sound is very nimble, hollow (like Shaw's operatic remark, "a bee buzzing in a jug"), and technically impressive (very fluid and fast). Part of what I am hearing could be the result of the recordings themselves. What else do Draper fans listen for? It's very nice.

Sorry to muscle back in on my favourite subject, but:
His later recordings are also worth getting because the subject matter is more serious and it's more extended. Pearl has issued a CD with both the Brahms and Mozart Quintets, recorded c.1928 with the Lener String Quartet. The Mozart is particularly impressive. You might also like to get hold of the Schubert Octet (Rockport Records, Lener Quartet Series)which despite slightly disappointing transfer is my personal favourite of all his output.
