 Do you do this too?

So the clarinet lamp topic reminded me of something I find myself doing when eating at certain restaurants...namely the ones that decorate the walls with old instruments. I always look to see what kind of clarinets are on the wall and look at the mouthpiece if I can. Do you all do this too?

Also, what would you do if you saw a Kaspar on one of these things?

I guess you just have to be prepared for that to happen by always carrying your worst spare mouthpiece to switch it with ;)

I once found a decent looking Symphony 1010 in the middle of nowwhere Indiana. I still regret not making an offer on it.

Absolutely! Ever time I stop at a new Cracker Barrel, I look at the horns!

If I ever saw anything I wanted, I would ask for it and replace it with a junker that has no place of use but on a wall. The kind of things sold on ebay "for parts".

I do look at the make if possible...I have yet to find anything worth inquiring about.

But I'm still looking.

YES, and elsewhere ! My [as of now] Selmer H S [tuned by Henri ?] 1929 A cl was in "storage" at our local history museum, so I traded my [earler] Penzel-Mueller F B for it, as the PM has "hist. significance [symphony]" to our city. Having a better F B when needed, I felt I had improved my "stable" and rescued the good Sel from obscurity. We all should "keep our eyes open" IMHO . Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

Can't say I've been to a restaurant with instruments on the wall in recent memory.

I was at one for the first time this past Friday (went with a friend who had to go analyze live jazz for a class). It was shocking! I'd never heard of this before. There was a trombone, a saxophone, a trumpet and what looked to be some sort of 'baby tuba' like thing.

I felt for them. It seems somehow less dignified than a museum.

my band teacher decorates his walls with discombobulated instruments.

one is a trombone with its slide bend at an extream angle and the bell close to flat.

other intrument is a valveles bugle about the size of a trumpet.

Of course! But sadly, the horns I've been able to identify are always beater student models--probably refugees from marching band.
