 Selmer Paris Omega Clarinet?
Author: azuka

I have just recently seen a Selmer Paris clarinet clearly marked as an Omega model! Now I thought that the Omega Model was only produced by Selmer USA, but here is this bell with the Omega logo embossed as well as Selmer Paris! Does anybody know anything about this model?

Thanks.

It's a super-deluxe Centered Tone model from the middle to late 1950s with a special throat Bb mechanism. There are quite a few postings about this model. I played a pair for several years. The A was an excellent instrument -- the Bb only so-so. They both had the typical Selmer CT sound -- fine for jazz, but with too much of a glare for classical. I was glad to trade them in for R-13s.

There are three different models:

1. Selmer Centered Tone Omega
2. Selmer Paris Omega
3. Selmer USA Omega

Well said, Ken and Vytas, also those posters in the earlier, archived threads. I have a V G USA Omega, which to me is prob. more like the Selmer 10 G/S's than my C T, which I still favor. All are good cls IMHO. Don

The CT Omega is from the '50s (with a large bore) and the Selmer (Paris) Omega is from the '90s (with a narrow bore). The Selmer USA Omega is a glorified Selmer Signet.

TKS, Chris P, I'm inclined to agree with you, the USA Omega is a dern good horn, and several of us like the flat LH "long key " touches, the major diff I can find. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don
