 Chamber music rehearsal techniques

What kind of warm-up can you do with a chamber ensemble with mixed instrumentation, specifically clarinet, cello, and piano? Other than basic interpretation, how are rehearsal techniques different in a chamber group like that as apposed to one where it's all the same instruments?

It's all about making the music - mixed or same it's still all about making the music. Work on intonation, phrasing, and conveying what the composer intended, then make it their own.

Each instrumentalist can warm up indivdually.

I recently performed the Berwald Septet with a group of well known people all symphony types etc. One thing that helped a lot and seems very simple: we all played a scale in unison. I guess at first i thought this was a little like high school band, but since the person who suggested was principal of a major symphony, i went with it. Seemed to help us all lock into a blend, and helped the intonation. The performance went well, and the washington post agreed.

The first thing you do is tell the pianist, "It's a little too loud." If the pianist asks, "Am I playing too loud?" the answer is always, "Yes."
