 troublesome M. Lacroix mouthpiece

it came with my M.Lacroix clarinet. the only markings on it is M. Lacroix 3.AAA. none of my Vandoren traditional #3s work with it. i tried it with some old worn out 2 1/2s which resulted in easier playing but horrible sound. I do not want to completely give up on it since it seems to be well made. comparing to my 5RV Lyre, it has roughly the same tip opening but a much smaller diameter. Vandoren traditional seems to be too wide for it. any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Thumb rule when trying new mouthpiece:New mouthpiece with new reeds. So you should brake in at least 4-5 new reeds on it before you get to any conclusion.

Hi Menglin, I'm also in OK, Bartlesville. Is your Lacroix a soprano Bb, Boehm system, wood clarinet? I'd suggest you put the mp and barrel together and then view, or feel [if a little finger is small enough] the interface between the two pieces. If there is much of a "step" between the two, it might cause playing/tuning problems. Does the barrel show the Lacroix name?, it might have been replaced and does not match the mp/cl bore very well. If OK, put the barrel [only] on the upper joint, and again check the interface for "mismatch". I'm unfamiliar with the 3.AAA ?lay description, it might be a very short {French style] curve length , however, if all is OK, and you wish to play that mp, you might consider asking one of our mp Pros to reface it, to a 5RVL or a more open lay . Good Luck, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

If you will make a Search [above] for Lacroix, you will see that David Spiegelthal is very familian with them. Luck, Don
